Hospitality industry offers a very diverse and promising career path to students wishing to start their career in this industry. I wish to start my career in front office department and I am very passionately preparing for it. This department involves multiple job roles such as Porter, Bell Desk Attendant, Receptionist, Cashier, Concierge etc. (Future Group 2015); and I would like to start my career as Front Office Manager and with subsequent years of experience I intend to go up the ladder to serve as General Manager for some global hospitality business. With this role I, would have to plan reservations & room allocations as well as manage and coach the front-desk employees at the hotel. I will have to ensure that visitors are handled politely, that issues and concerns are addressed, and that have had a pleasant experience.
There will always be several employment rights-related counsels that we might seek in the workplace regardless of whether we love our careers or despise going into the office every day. For instance, there may be situations involving WHS conditions of the workplace, list of acceptable activities, wage rights etc. where employees can seek advice on their rights and responsibilities. Apart from this, the Restaurant and Catering Industry Association also runs a few schemes and programs to deal with quality and compliance issues. For example, “Gold License Accreditation Scheme” refers to the symbol of quality that restaurants are required to obey while recruiting caterers (Restaurant & Catering, 2022). This scheme caters to the quality and standards of food safety, work and service standards, professionalism etc.
On the other hand, “Green Table Accreditation” is another education & certification program which recognizes catering and hospitality businesses such as restaurants or cafes to share their contribution in reducing their environmental impact (Udawatta et al. 2020).
