Gasket blanking machine

During maintenance on one of the four V12 Wasilla’s it became apparent that the cylinder gaskets will need to be replaced for a new time interval due to failures, you have been tasked to design a new machine that will blank the gaskets.

The operation sequence of the machine is as follows

1/ Gasket material placed onto the loading bed.

2/ Guard has to be lowered and (interlocked).

3/ Once interlocked the gasket material is moved to the blanking area using a suitable method.

4/ A signal is required to show material located correctly

5/ Double handed start by operator to blank gasket

6/ Upon completion and retraction of the ram the finished gasket is ejected.

7/ Once gasket ejected and the guard is opened

  You must select and arrange appropriate sensors to make the cycle work.

Task 6: - LO 4.2 Evaluate and discuss the technical requirements and commercial considerations for the blanking machine above. Assuming that bought out gaskets are £210, material cost = £35 which will allow 25 gaskets to be produced, the cycle time for the process is 1.5 mins per gasket and operator cost is £8 per hour.
