    Assessment -2

Mary has taken the right decision of availing the opportunity of starting a home business, manufacturing a variety of condiments. As mentioned, she owns the ‘Aroma Shop’ and a small factory in New Castle where she manufactures organic ingredients and does not use any preservatives. Let us now discuss the Indian Business Etiquette that Mary should take into consideration on her visit to meet Mr. Sharma – the manager of a popular store in India, to create a favorable first time impression based on cross-cultural communication framework developed by Geert Hofstede. Business cultures vary as per different countries and the national culture of the country depends on various factor rights to the social changes (Boopathi, 2014). Due to cultural influences, the management methods as well as the leadership styles vary as per different counties (Taleghani et al, 2010). Furthermore, in this case, it would be important to assess Mr. Sharma’s attitude and behavior as per the influence of the national culture (as people within organizations behave differently too as per national cultures). As we all know, India has a lot of cultural diversity and to do business in India, it is important to understand the vibrant culture of the country. The basic business language of India is English, which is considered by all sections of society (Shira, 2017). Furthermore, the time format follows the British manner as DD/MM/YY., with the business calendar year from April to March. All business meetings and appointments are normally scheduled via communication through emails. It is common to refer to people as “Mr.” or “Ms.” so as to denote a formal gesture of communication. In her initial conversation with Mr. Sharma, Mary should greet Mr. Sharma in the traditional way of slightly bowing her head and say a ‘Namaste’ with her hands pressed together in front of the chest (Shira, 2017) and since Mr. Sharma seems a lot elder to Mary, she could refer to him as ‘Sir’. Mary should introduce her well and describe her role in the organization. She needs to be aware of what parameters need to be discussed when visiting Mr. Sharma. Furthermore, if it’s a lunch / dinner meeting, she should make sure of what cuisine Mr. Sharma prefers and if he is a pure vegetarian or not. It is advisable to schedule meetings keeping into mind various aspects (such as traffic) that may lead to delays in meetings. It is important for Mary to be clear and specific of what she is looking for in her meeting with Mr. Sharma and also have a set of documentation prepared to discuss orders that she would want to execute partnering with Mr. Sharma. For the same ,a clear timeline should be established and deliverables should be monitored (Shira, 2017).
