Introduction:
Investment in information systems is rising in the health and disability sector. This is
because information systems play a significant role in efforts to improve health outcomes
and decision-making in the planning, funding and delivery of care. Similarly, the Health
Information Strategy for New Zealand and New Zealand Health Strategy (Ministry of Health,
2016) acknowledge that information management is an integral part of achieving health and
disability outcomes for New Zealanders.
However, the management team of your organisation is undecided on whether or not to
commit resources for information systems. Therefore, you have been requested to critically
analyse national and global trends in information systems and prepare a report arguing for
investment in the information system.
You have also been given the task of developing a strategy to implement the Electronic
Health Record system in your organisation. For which you have to prepare a pitch to
convince the management of your organisation, to implement the Electronic Health Record
strategy in your healthcare organisation.
Assessment Task:
The report should be between 3,000 – 3,500 words. This limit does not include references/
bibliography, and appendices.
Part A:
Critically analyse national and global trends regarding information system in line with
themes as outlined in the Health Information Strategy for New Zealand (Ministry of
Health, 2005) and the New Zealand Health Strategy (Ministry of Health, 2016). Prepare a
report arguing for investing in information systems, to be presented to the management
team of the organisation. (1500 – 1700 words).
Part B:
Critically analyse the National Electronic Health Record strategy of Australia and New
Zealand. Prepare a report arguing for the implementation of Electronic Health Record
strategy in your healthcare organisation, to be presented to the management of the
organisation. (1300 – 1500 words).
