Beowulf is a poem that outlines the theme of good against evil. It is acknowledged as a heroic poem where evil goes down against the good. When it comes to Beowulf, there is no doubt in stating the respective character as a hero. The light in the poem is acknowledged as a sign of good. Grendel is the evil part of the poem, which is monstrous and is always brings negativity around the hero. The term dark is acknowledged as a sign of pure evil that was around the corner.
The poem is constantly showcasing how good is always having the upper hand against evil throughout the poem. The regular fights portrayed between Grendel and Beowulf also included Grendel’s mother, and the dragon was constant replication of evil bothering the good part of the story. But, the outcome was always stressed how good came up heroically over evil. The goodness never left empty-handed, and evil always had to return with its face down.
Wilf accepts Beowulf with a good heart when he slaughters the dragon and ensures that he is dead. This shows how good won over evil, and it is always going to be this way forever.
When Beowulf comes close to Danish ground, he is more of a young guy who is constantly looking for fame and quest. He became popular among his, who were known as Geats. His bravery is the reason behind his popularity. When Beowulf was young, he got involved in several fights, and this showed his bravery.
But, we all know how Beowulf has come up with many personalities that helped him come out as successful in all the fights. In fact, when he was young, he was acknowledged as the toughest man, and this made him very popular among everyone. He came up with force, and that made him come over several fights. In fact, he came up with so much force that it allowed him to beat Grendel without any hassle.
The best part was that Beowulf didn’t even come up with weapons as he himself was enough to win over Grendel. He was confident, brave, and smart, and this is the reason why we were able to win over Grendel and that too without any weapons and armaments. The power he comes up with certainly shows that there is no weakness in him. The power within him allowed him to control the fight without any hassle but also made him feel a bit overconfident.
This confidence did allow him to win certain battles without any hassle. But there are several who even thought fighting without a weapon was quite overconfident and a big mistake. One of the Ecglaf thinks that Beowulf was nothing but worthless and overconfident. But, as the others saw that fighting without weapons was a mistake, Beowulf thought differently about the same. Going without the weapon made him feel that he had complete faith in his abilities, and it assured that his head was in the right space to get over whoever was against him.
His journey was courageous all the way through, and this was taken to a completely different level when he hit the hard ground with Grendel. The power and inspiration he showed during all the battles, including the one with Grendel, was undoubted quite a courageous act.
When he proceeded ahead to assist Hrothgar, it was quite evident that he used his fame to win the respective battles. In fact, he knew it was his courage that helped him become so popular among his near and dear ones. All his achievement was actually because of the daring he has shown over the years, fighting different battles without any kind of weapons.
When he was young, Beowulf always considered using power to gain gratitude and fame. But, with his age, the power was gone, and eventually, he established himself as the perfect option for becoming the king. In fact, afterwards, he was the kind of the Geats. At that time, the dragon was making life problematic for all in his land. But, Beowulf being the king, took all the responsibility to ensure that all were protected. He went on to fight the dragon and slaughtered it to death, and ensured that his land was free from all the issues caused by a dragon.
But there is no denying the fact that the dragon was always the most powerful personality among the two. Beowulf was once also saved by his friend Wiglaf during the fight. After he won the battle, he realized that he was no more the same as he was in his younger times. He came to peace that his time had passed, and when he was on his death bed, he constantly thought about wrongdoings in his life. He also thought about his friends and all the great fights he had had over the period of time.
He thinks that he had a great life overall. He felt alive every second, and he lilovedvery bit of it to the fullest like a hero. There is no doubt in stating that Beowulf was an excellent warrior, and his power and courage assisted him to win and gain fame. People around recognized him because of his bravery and courage. All these aspects reflect that he had a great life, and he was at complete peace on his death bed.
