In 1926, Le Corbusier formulated the five principles that would guide modern architecture for the rest of the decade. For more than a century, Le Corbusier's concepts have been thoroughly explored in modern architecture and continue to impact the most diverse current architectural projects today, including the landmark Villa Savoye proposal of 1929.
With the help of these five principles, Le Corbusier's New Architecture was born. In spite of the passage of time and the emergence of new technology, materials, and social demands, the architectural solutions first proposed over a century ago are still relevant today.
The five principles have been incorporated into various architectural projects throughout the past few decades. If more than one or perhaps all five are displayed in a structure, the strong connection between these points is reinforced and the modernist history of present architecture is somehow confirmed.

Pilotis
Ground-level traffic is freed up when a structure is lifted above pilots. It is still utilised today to encourage open spaces, with a deeper link between the public and private spheres of the building.

In order to create an open floor plan, structural constraints are removed from the floor plan, allowing the walls and interior areas of the building to become more flexible and interconnected. This feature enables future alterations to the structure, such as additions or the relocation of partition walls.

As a result, a more open floor plan and facade may be achieved by separating the structure from the walls. Another one of the five principles for a new architecture is that non-structural walls can allow for horizontal windows to be installed.
Aspects of Windows
More light and a broader perspective of the outside are provided by horizontal windows, which span the length of a building's face. There are several modern projects that play with with this aspect by experimenting with different window frame forms and placements.
