TYPE OF INDUSTRY – SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media is one of the leading industries in the world. Social media refers to networking sites that help to communicate online with people around the world. It enables users for internet activities like e-commerce, business networks, blogging, sharing reviews, video conferencing and sharing of media files faster than before (Anon., 2019). Around 3 billion people use social media in worldwide according to global digital report 2018 (Chaffey, 23 Nov 2018). At present some of the Trending social media networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and LinkedIn, etc.

The social media industry has developed a great scope for business and marketing. Social media has become a lucrative industry in the world. It provides various benefits like business development, marketing, news and information (Anon., n.d.).

Facebook is one of the prominent and popular social network websites. The report enhances the knowledge on this important social website.

ABOUT THE COMPANY - FACEBOOK

Facebook is the most popular and trending social network website which is ruling the Social media industry and the world. Facebook was founded in the year 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, the present CEO and chairman of Facebook (Anon., n.d.). The headquarters of Facebook is at California, US. It aims to give power to the users to the world closer and together by building a community (Anon., n.d.). Facebook is mostly preferred to communicate with family and friends staying at a different part of the world. (Kayrouz, 2016) Facebook has become the most attractive platform for business and marketing. Facebook provides various services like a business page, advertisements, Facebook data science, gaming, analogue research laboratory, Facebook education, diversity, and design.

  • CYBERBULLYING: Bullying people on digital or social network platform by posting, sharing uploading picture, text, video which embarrasses or humiliates an individual, or threatens them.  
  • INSECURITY: It hampers the Privacy of users as it easily exposed to hacking and misuse of information and private data of the users. It is very easy for stalkers to get information about the private lives of users. (Berricella, 2012)
  • NEGATIVE EXPOSER: It is easy to spread fake news and negative content on Facebook. These contents go viral without any sensor or check. (Kumar, 2019.
  • FAKE PROFILES: It is easy to create fake profiles in the names of other people on Facebook. It lacks behind to identify those profiles and take strict actions against such users.
  • DATA PRIVACY: Facebook is criticized for its lack of data privacy. (Berricella, 2012)  The information of users is extracted and used for business and political purposes. (Ktoridou, 2018) People are unaware about the leak of their profile informationd and cues to users. (Dufner, 2018)
  • TIME CONSUMING: Facebook is an addiction for every age group. People invest a lot of time surfing on Facebook for entertainment purposes.

3.CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

CONCLUSION:

Social media is one of the important industries in the market to promote business and connect people. Billions of people are active on social media. Facebook is one of the prominent and popular social media in the trend. It provides a lot of benefits to the users and businessmen free of cost. Facebook business page enables to connect sellers and buyers from a different part of the world. It has improved a faster communication system for sharing messages, news and information. However, it is also criticized for its lack of data privacy and security. It is easy to monitor the users’ activity by using their information from Facebook. It needs to focus on the issues to gain the trust of the users.

RECOMMENDATION:

  • FILTER FOR TOPIC BASED NEWS FEED: Users should have an option not to be interrupted by unwanted ads and news feeds. There should be a filter for news feeds according to user preference.
  • IMPROVE SECURITY: Personal information, photos, and data of users should be increased to avoid stalkers and hackers to misuse or save the information uploaded by the user.
  • DATA PRIVACY: Facebook should focus on the issue of data privacy of the audience to prevent its misuse.
  • REMOVE FAKE PROFILES: Fake profiles should be identified and removed from the website to reduce frauds and negativity in the social media.
